Council provide a free advisory service to the building industry and the community in respect to all building control matters. Council will continue to undertake all other duties in respect to administering and enforcing the Building Act 1993 and all relevant building regulations.

All home owners and occupants must be vigilant around placing flammable clothing close to heating appliances and more importantly to ensure their smoke alarms are regularly maintained and operational at all times, as only working smoke alarms save lives. According to CFA statistics, chances to survive a house fire without a working smoke alarm are reduced by 60%.
For rental properties, all landlords must ensure working smoke alarms have been fitted in accordance with the Building Regulations. Failure to do so, can leave the landlord open to prosecution should damage to property, injury or loss of life occur. Estate agents managing properties need to work with landlords and occupants to ensure working smoke alarms have been fitted, in accordance with the requirements.”
